DO NOT VILIFY THE OIL AND GAS INDUSTRY: ELON MUSK WARNS

During an interview with Trump on X, Elon Musk defended the oil and gas industry, stressing its importance to the current economy and arguing against demonizing it.

Musk suggested that a transition to a sustainable economy could take 50 to 100 years. Later in the interview, Donald Trump proposed a longer timeline of 100 to 500 years for the same transition.

Elon Musk urged the world to stop vilifying  the oil and gas industry during an interview with Donald Trump on X, echoing his earlier statements on the matter.

My views on climate change and oil gas are pretty moderate,

Musk told Trump during the conversation.

I don’t think we should vilify the oil and gas industry and the people that have worked very hard in those industries to provide the necessary energy to support the economy,

added the Tesla CEO billionaire, who has endorsed Trump for president.

Musk added that, in practical terms, the world could transition to a sustainable economy within 50 to 100 years—a timeline that Trump later extended to "100 to 500 years" during the interview, without Musk offering any correction.

Tesla's CEO, who is also seen as a leading figure in the energy transition by many enthusiasts, remarked that when it comes to oil and gas, "it's not like the house is on fire immediately."

It's probably better to move there faster than slower. But like without vilifying the oil and gas industry and without causing hardship in the short term,

Musk added.

This isn't the first time the billionaire has urged the public to stop "demonizing" fossil fuels. He made a similar appeal at the end of last year when he addressed an Italian right-wing summit, advocating for a more "pragmatic" and "sensible" approach toward oil and gas, at least in the medium term.

Donald Trump has consistently supported the U.S. oil and gas industry, arguing for years that the Biden Administration's EV mandate will harm well-paying American auto industry jobs.

However, Trump has spoken positively about electric vehicles (EVs) at some rallies since receiving Musk's endorsement. Despite this, he remains unwavering in his support for oil and gas, pledging to increase U.S. domestic oil production and roll back certain regulations to facilitate that goal.
