SHUTDOWN SENTUO REFINERY: IES AND COPEC CALL ON NPA
COPEC and IES have called on the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) to close down the Chinese Sentuo Oil Refinery due to accusations of conducting illegal activities. In a statement released on February 21, 2024, the organizations expressed worries about the refinery operating without proper authorization from the NPA and allegedly distributing low-quality fuel to the public. They emphasized that according to the NPA Act 2005, all entities involved in downstream activities must obtain a permit from the board before commencing operations. However, IES and COPEC insist that Sentuo has not acquired the necessary permits for oil processing and trading.
