GENSER ENERGY APPRECIATES STAKEHOLDERS FOR NEW GAS PIPELINE CONSTRUCTION PROJECT
Genser Energy, a Ghanaian-owned power company, has expressed its sincere gratitude to all parties involved in the successful completion of a 110-kilometer natural gas pipeline. This vital infrastructure will supply fuel to the 250-megawatt Kumasi 1 Thermal Power Plant and future power plants, including the 500-megawatt AKSA and 330-megawatt CENIT facilities, representing a major milestone in the development of Ghana's power sector.
The newly completed gas transmission infrastructure, stretching from Prestea to Anwomaso, is a shining example of the successful partnership between the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) and Genser Energy Ghana Limited.
This significant accomplishment highlights the crucial contributions of multiple stakeholders, including the GNPC, financial institutions (Stanbic, Absa, DBSA), government agencies (Land Valuation Board, Energy Commission), local leaders and communities, Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA), and mining companies (Gold Fields) whose financial backing made the project possible.
The Anwomaso Gas Pipeline project, led by Genser Energy, features a 420km network of 12,000 steel pipes imported from the US, designed to transport natural gas from the Western Region to the power plant. Spanning three phases, the extensive pipeline will traverse multiple regions, poised to boost Ghana's power sector and deliver cost-effective energy to support local industries and drive regional growth.
On Wednesday, at the commissioning ceremony of the gas pipeline in Anwomaso, Ashanti Region, His Royal Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, emphasized the crucial role of government policies in supporting private sector initiatives for industrial growth, reiterating the need for greater private sector participation in driving the country's development agenda.
“It is about time the government should be content with policies and private sectors should be involved in setting up industries. It would work that way and therefore attract more investments into the country,” he said.
The Minister of Energy, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, acknowledged the achievements of his predecessors and reaffirmed the government's dedication to providing a reliable and ample electricity supply nationwide. He praised the partnership with Genser Energy for advancing this goal. Nana Otwasuom Osae Nyampong VI, the Board Chair of Genser Energy, expressed appreciation for the collaborative effort and reiterated the company's commitment to providing energy solutions in Ghana and beyond. He encouraged the government to create an enabling environment for private sector investment in national development projects.
Jonathan Oppenheimer, Executive Chairman of Oppenheimer Generations, was also present at the commissioning ceremony, where he emphasized the vital importance of energy in driving national progress and praised Genser Energy for its dedication to providing environmentally friendly and sustainable energy solutions, supporting the country's growth and development.
Baafour Asiamah-Adjei, Founder and CEO of Genser Energy, appealed to local communities and the public to help safeguard the gas pipelines' right-of-way, stressing their crucial role in revitalizing the Ashanti Region's industrial hub.
As a diversified energy company operating in West Africa, Genser Energy is committed to continuing its contributions to the region's energy sector. With an installed capacity of over 200MW and an extensive natural gas pipeline network spanning over 420km, the company remains dedicated to delivering dependable energy solutions that support economic growth and industrial development.
