GHANA SET FOR HISTORIC REFINING OF LOCALLY PRODUCED CRUDE OIL

President John Mahama has announced that Ghana is set to achieve a significant milestone in its petroleum sector with the delivery of locally produced crude oil from Ghana’s offshore fields to the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) for processing in June 2026.

The initiative is aimed at increasing local value addition, reducing dependence on imported refined petroleum products, and ensuring that more economic benefits from the country’s natural resources remain within Ghana. (3News)

Speaking at a town hall meeting with the Ghanaian diaspora in London, Mahama explained that refining crude oil locally would help create jobs, strengthen industrial development, and reduce the long-standing practice of exporting raw resources only to import finished products at higher costs. He described the move as a revival of a policy that was introduced during his previous administration but was later discontinued. (BusinessGhana)

The President emphasized that Ghana must focus on processing its resources domestically to capture more value from sectors such as oil, mining, and manufacturing.
