Key Developments

 • Dangote’s aviation fuel now supplies at least two-thirds of Nigeria’s demand and nearly half of West Africa’s consumption.

 • The refinery’s Nigerian-made aviation fuel is now recommended for use in major international airports, including Heathrow Airport in the UK.

 • The shipment to Saudi Aramco highlights Dangote Refinery’s expanding global footprint and growing reputation in the energy sector.

According to BusinessDay, Dangote Group President Aliko Dangote confirmed the deal during a tour of the refinery by the Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG), stating:

“We are already reaching the ambitious goals we set for ourselves, and we are pleased to announce that we have just sold two cargoes of jet fuel to Saudi Aramco.”

Dangote’s Growing Influence in Aviation Fuel Supply

Since its launch, Dangote Refinery has become Nigeria’s primary supplier of JET A1 fuel, significantly reducing reliance on imports. It has also expanded exports to international destinations, including Iceland, London, and now Saudi Arabia.

A report from S&P Global Commodity Insights highlights that between January and October 2024, a substantial volume of Dangote’s fuel was delivered to the Lomé transshipment hub off the coast of Togo.

With Dangote as the sole supplier of jet fuel to Nigerian airlines, the country’s jet fuel imports have dropped from 13,000 b/d in 2023 to just 5,000 b/d in 2024.

International Recognition and Partnerships

 • British Petroleum (BP) completed its first purchase of Dangote jet fuel, shipping approximately 45,000 metric tons via the vessel Doric Breeze.

 • Singapore, Asia’s leading oil hub, also received its first low-sulfur straight-run fuel oil cargo from Dangote Refinery, according to market sources and ship-tracking data.

 • Saudi Aramco’s decision to source aviation fuel from Dangote further underscores the refinery’s rising global reputation for quality and reliability.

With this latest achievement, Dangote Refinery is rapidly establishing itself as a major player in the global aviation fuel market, reducing Africa’s dependence on imported refined products while expanding its reach in key international markets.
